Sherrone Moore addressed the media on Saturday for the first time as Michigan's head football coach.

The 37-year-old said "it's an honor" to be the first Black head coach in school history.

Per Tony Paul of the Detroit News, Moore is also the youngest head coach for the Wolverines since Bump Elliott was hired at the age of 34 in 1957.

Moore used his opening remarks to say he's "prepared my entire coaching career for this moment" and he "can't think of a better place to do it than the University of Michigan."

He wrapped up his opening statement by taking a page from the Harbaugh family quote book.

Last season provided a small glimpse of what Moore can do in the top job. He went 4-0 in four games as acting head coach when Jim Harbaugh was serving two different suspensions related to potential NCAA rules violations.

Moore was also suspended by the university for the regular-season opener against East Carolina related to alleged recruiting violations.

A former offensive lineman during his playing days, Moore joined Michigan's staff in 2018 as the tight ends coach. He became the co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach starting with the 2021 season.

When Harbaugh left the Wolverines to become head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, All-American guard Zak Zinter was among many players who vouched for Moore to be his replacement.

Moore has big shoes to fill after Harbaugh went out on top with a 15-0 record and the school's first national championship in 26 years. This is his first stint as a head coach at any level.

A total of 12 players from the national-title team have declared for the 2024 NFL draft, including quarterback J.J. McCarthy and running back Blake Corum.

Based on the enthusiasm from several Wolverines players to Moore's hiring, he should have no problem keeping the program among the ranks of the nation's elite.
