NFL Draft 2024 Rumors: Michael Penix Jr.'s Medical Reports 'Are Going to Clear'
NFL teams that have concerns about Michael Penix Jr.'s injury history will at least get good news when they get access to his records during the predraft process.
Per The Athletic's Bruce Feldman, Penix's doctor told the quarterback "his medicals are going to clear" when the two met on Monday.
Despite finishing in the top 10 in Heisman Trophy voting each of the past two years, including a second-place showing in 2023, Penix still has to overcome a lot of concerns related to his long-term durability.

The issues stem mostly from his time at Indiana from 2018 to '21. He tore the ACL in his right knee on two different occasions, suffered an acromioclavicular joint separation in his left shoulder in 2019 and a separated shoulder in 2021.
Those injuries limited Penix to 21 games in four seasons, though he was generally productive while playing for the Hoosiers. He threw for 24 touchdowns with eight interceptions in 13 games across the 2019 and 2020 seasons.
After he transferred to Washington in December 2021, Penix's career really took off. He threw for 9,544 yards, 67 touchdowns and completed 65.4 percent of his attempts in 28 games over the past two seasons.
The Huskies went 25-3 during that span, winning the Pac-12 championship and making the College Football Playoff in 2023.
There are also a lot of questions about Penix's upside as an NFL quarterback once he clears the medical hurdles. B/R's NFL scouting department has him ranked as the No. 7 quarterback and 97th-best prospect overall in the 2024 draft class.
Penix's worst game of the season came in the College Football Playoff Championship against Michigan. He finished 27-of-51 for 255 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in a 34-13 loss.
The 23-year-old can start to erase the memory of that game for NFL scouts starting next week when he participates in the Senior Bowl.
