Packers Rumors: Brandon Staley to Interview for DC Job amid Rams, Dolphins Links
The Green Bay Packers are reportedly interviewing former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley for their defensive coordinator position.
Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported the Packers lined up an interview with Staley after dismissing Joe Barry earlier this week. Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Staley is also set to meet with the Miami Dolphins for the same position and "has drawn interest" from the Los Angeles Rams to replace Raheem Morris.
Staley compiled a 24-24 record in three seasons with the Chargers. The team fired him after an embarrassing Week 15 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders and amid a 5-9 start. Los Angeles had entered the 2023 season with hopes of winning the AFC West after a playoff berth a year ago.

Staley actually has more head coaching experience than time as a coordinator in the NFL. He spent only one season as the Rams' defensive coordinator in 2020 before being hired by the Chargers in what many viewed as a surprising decision.
A grinder at the college level for most of his career, Staley did not land his first NFL coaching gig until 2017. He then spent three seasons as the outside linebackers coach with the Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos before landing in Los Angeles.
Barry and Staley overlapped during the latter's one-season stint with the Rams, with the former serving as an assistant head coach and linebackers coach. Barry exited the Rams staff for the 2021 season to work under Matt LaFleur as the Packers defensive coordinator.
Green Bay's unit struggled for much of the 2023 season before a late-season turnaround helped send the Packers to the postseason. The Packers finished 17th in yards allowed and 10th in points allowed, but the inconsistency of the unit was enough to spell Barry's undoing.
