NFL Rumors: Joe Brady Interviewing for Full-Time Bills OC Job After Playoff Run

Paul KasabianJan 25, 2024

The Buffalo Bills are interviewing interim offensive coordinator Joe Brady for the team's full-time OC role, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Brady started the season as Buffalo's quarterbacks coach and took over for the fired Ken Dorsey on Nov. 14 after the team fell to 5-5 following a 24-22 loss to the Denver Broncos.

"We need to be a confident offensive football team, and find consistent production, and that's really what it came down to," head coach Sean McDermott told reporters after his decision. "I'm as frustrated as anyone out there. We're trying to win one game at a time right now, and we get a chance to right the ship."

Buffalo finished the season 6-1 in its last seven games, good enough to win the AFC East at 11-6. The Bills defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-17 in the AFC Wild Card round before falling to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional round.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen has made it clear that he would love for Brady to be back in the mix in 2024.

"I would fully embrace it," Allen said, per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.

"I love Joe. I love what he brings to this team, to our offense, the juice that he has, the passion that he has for football. How much preparation he's put into a tough situation these last seven to eight weeks. Yeah, I would fully embrace it. And obviously there's stuff that needs to go on before that, and I understand there's probably an interview process and all that, but he's got my vote."

Brady, 34, completed an interview with the Atlanta Falcons for their head coaching job. However, the Falcons have decided to roll with Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris for the position, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Ultimately, some continuity for Allen could be good for the Bills. If Buffalo moves away from Brady, then the Bills will have had four offensive coordinators in four seasons (Brian Daboll in 2021, Dorsey in 2022 and 2023 and Brady in 2023). Buffalo certainly fared well under Brady, and the run game in particular evolved under his watch, with James Cook breaking out in the back half of the year.

We'll see if Brady sticks around soon enough, but it appears that he's the strong leader in the clubhouse, especially given Allen's endorsement.
