Top Royal Rumble Matches to Watch
Men's Royal Rumble Match
The men's Royal Rumble match looks to be stacked with top-end talent, and there are at least a few Superstars with a legitimate chance to win.
CM Punk and Cody Rhodes appear to be the co-favorites, as they both have clear paths to WrestleMania 40 with Punk seemingly wanting to challenge world heavyweight champion Seth Rollins and Rhodes wanting a rematch with undisputed WWE universal champion Roman Reigns.
Rhodes won last year's Rumble, and if he is victorious again this year, he will join Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin as the only Superstars to ever win back-to-back Rumbles.
Meanwhile, Punk has never won a Rumble, and he hasn't been in one since 2014, which also happened to be his most recent televised match with WWE.
Intercontinental champion Gunther also has to be considered a threat after finishing as the runner-up in last year's Rumble.
Gunther, who is the longest-reigning IC champ of all time, stepped up to Rollins on Monday night's episode of Raw and said he intended to win the Rumble and challenge him at WrestleMania.
Of course, surprises are always a possibility as well, and there is no bigger potential one than The Rock.
Earlier this month, The Rock made a surprise return to WWE on Raw and mentioned "The Head of the Table," which is one of Reigns' nicknames.
If there are indeed plans in place for Reigns vs. The Rock at WrestleMania 40, The Rock winning the Rumble has to at least be considered an option for WWE to explore.
Women's Royal Rumble Match
As wide open as the men's Royal Rumble is, it can be argued that the women's Royal Rumble match is even more unpredictable.
Becky Lynch stands out as a strong contender since she is one of WWE's biggest stars, and there have seemingly been teases for a match between her and women's world champion Rhea Ripley.
If Lynch wins, she will become the first woman in WWE history to win multiple Royal Rumble matches.
One big women's star who has never won the Rumble is Bayley, and she stands out as a potential winner as well.
In recent weeks, Bayley has been teasing winning the Rumble and challenging Ripley so that both her and Damage CTRL stablemate Iyo Sky can be champions.
Damage CTRL has appeared to be distancing itself from Bayley a bit recently, so WWE could move forward with the intriguing storyline of Bayley winning and then turning on Damage CTRL before they turn on her.
Bianca Belair is always in the title mix as well, and like Lynch, she has a chance to become a two-time Rumble winner.
There has been speculation that Jade Cargill could make her WWE in-ring debut at the Rumble after signing with the company in September, and she would have to be considered a contender if that happens.
WWE likely wants Cargill to be one of the faces of the women's division, and winning the Rumble in her first match would undoubtedly accomplish that.
Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton vs. AJ Styles vs. LA Knight
Roman Reigns has been world champion for over 1,200 days, but he may face his toughest challenge yet at Royal Rumble.
After Reigns interrupted a Triple Threat match to determine his No. 1 contender, SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis ruled that Reigns would have to put his title on the line in a Fatal 4-Way match.
In Randy Orton, AJ Styles and LA Knight, Reigns will be faced with three of the best Superstars SmackDown has to offer.
It seems unlikely that Reigns will drop the title so close to WrestleMania, but if plans for Reigns vs. The Rock are in place, it isn't outside the realm of possibility.
The Rock could interfere, costing Reigns the title and setting up their WrestleMania match, and it would allow a different match to be bolstered by the championship.
Reigns winning and retaining is the likely scenario, but even if he does, a Rock appearance could happen, and that brings anticipation for WrestleMania 40 to a fever pitch.
