Chargers Rumors: Giants' Brandon Brown to Interview for GM Job amid Jim Harbaugh Buzz

While the Los Angeles Chargers have been in hot pursuit of Jim Harbaugh to become their next head coach, they reportedly have turned their attention to filling their general manager opening.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, New York Giants assistant GM Brandon Brown is in Los Angeles for a second interview with the Chargers on Wednesday.

Brown has been a member of the Giants front office for the past two seasons after Joe Schoen was hired as GM in 2022. Together, they helped lead a swift turnaround that saw New York surprisingly clinch a spot in the playoffs in 2022 where they upset the NFC North champion Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Wild Card Round. Unfortunately, the team wasn't able to sustain its success this season and missed the postseason after finishing with with a 6-11 record.

"Brandon is an invaluable contributor to our overall football operations team," Schoen said in December. "He is a tireless worker and thorough evaluator. Brandon's strong leadership qualities and communication skills allow the respective departments in football operations to function efficiently and effectively."

The Chargers are hoping to find a replacement for former GM Tom Telesco, who was fired along with former head coach Brandon Staley in mid-December amid the team's disappointing season that ended with a 5-12 record. Telesco, who had held the position with the Chargers for 11 seasons, was hired as the Las Vegas Raiders' new GM on Tuesday.

Once Los Angeles gets its GM in place, it can put all of its focus into its head coaching search. Harbaugh, who is one of the most coveted coaching candidates on the market, reportedly had a second interview with the Chargers this week.

If Los Angeles manages to land Harbaugh, it will greatly improve the team's chances to bounce back and contend for a playoff spot in 2024 and beyond.
