Terry Rozier Trade Has Heat Fans Hyped, Championed as NBA Title Contenders

Erin WalshJan 23, 2024

Terry Rozier is heading to South Florida for the opportunity to contend for an NBA title.

The Miami Heat are acquiring Rozier from the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for a 2027 first-round pick and veteran point guard Kyle Lowry, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Rozier is definitely an upgrade from Lowry, who had a disappointing two and a half seasons in Miami by his standards following an All-Star career with the Toronto Raptors. Lowry's struggles ultimately saw him demoted to a bench role, and the Heat now get a player in Rozier who can help run the offense.

The 29-year-old is in the midst of a career year and should bring some much-needed scoring and shot creation to the Miami offense alongside Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro.

Rozier, in his ninth NBA season, is averaging 23.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 6.6 assists in 30 games while shooting 45.9 percent from the floor and 35.8 percent from beyond the arc.

With the news that Rozier is taking his talents to Miami, Heat fans believe the team can now truly contend for an NBA title alongside Eastern Conference heavyweights in the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers and Milwaukee Bucks:

The Heat sit sixth in the Eastern Conference with a 24-19 record—9.5 games back of the first-place Celtics.

Miami hasn't won a title since 2013, and considering they've been to three NBA Finals since then, it's clear the Heat can contend, they just lacked that extra piece to get them over the hump.

Will Rozier be the missing piece to the puzzle?
