Novak Djokovic Hailed as GOAT by Fans for 11th Australian Open Semis After Fritz Win
Novak Djokovic is an ageless wonder after advancing to the Australian Open semifinals for the 11th time in his legendary career.
Djokovic defeated Taylor Fritz 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals on Tuesday. The American did come out of the gate strong in the first two sets, but he was eventually worn down by Djokovic as the match went on.
This is the fifth time that Djokovic has advanced to the final four at the Australian Open in his last five appearances at the tournament. His victory over Fritz also gave him 700 match wins on hard-court surfaces.
The response to the 36-year-old Djokovic continuing to roll on the biggest stages in the sport was full of awe and amazement.
The list of superlatives to describe Djokovic 21 years into his pro career is extremely long, making it difficult to think of new ones. He's certainly earned his reputation as arguably the greatest men's player of all-time with 24 Grand Slam singles titles.
Based on his track record, Djokovic is a safe bet to leave Australia with a 25th. He has never lost in this tournament when he's reached the semifinals. The only person who has defeated him at a Grand Slam event in the past year was Carlos Alcaraz in the final at Wimbledon.
Next up for Djokovic will be a showdown with either Jannik Sinner or Andrey Rublev on Thursday. Djokovic is a combined 9-3 against his two potential semifinal competitors in his career.
