Joel Embiid's career-high 70 points lifted the Philadelphia 76ers over Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night.

Embiid also grabbed 18 rebounds and dished out five assists as the 76ers won 133-123 at Wells Fargo Center. He shot 58.5 percent from the field, connecting on 21 of his 23 free-throw attempts. Embiid matched his previous career high of 59 points through three quarters, routinely bullying whichever defender Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich put on him.

He also set the 76ers franchise record for points in a game, surpassing Hall of Fame center Wilt Chamberlain's 68.

The 29-year-old has recorded at least 50 points on three separate occasions this season, strengthening his case to win a second consecutive MVP award. He now owns the highest-scoring individual game of the 2023-24 season, surpassing Giannis Antetokounmpo's 64 points against the Indiana Pacers on Dec. 13.

NBA fans and players alike were in awe of Embiid's historic performance, as the 76ers referenced Popovich jokingly telling reporters that the Spurs would have to "hammer his ass" prior to the game.

Although Embiid stole the show with his spectacular night, Wembanyama held his own against one of the best players in the NBA. The rookie put up 33 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two blocks as he continues to play on a minutes restriction.

Wembanyama shot 10-of-19 from the floor while also showcasing his range from behind the arc, connecting on two triples. He was able to get to the charity stripe with consistency, hitting a career-high 11 free throws.

Embiid raised his scoring average to a league-leading 36.1 points per game with the incredible performance, as the 76ers moved to 29-13.
