Josh Allen on Bills' Loss to Chiefs: 'On the Bright Side We Woke Up This Morning'

Buffalo Bills superstar quarterback Josh Allen was trying to keep perspective after his team lost to the Kansas City Chiefs, yet again, in the NFL playoffs.

"Losing's never fun," he told reporters. "It's a part of the game. It's the second worst part of the game, obviously injuries are the worst part. It's the reason you play this game, because you don't want to feel this way. But when you do feel this way, it makes winning all the more special and this isn't something we're going to run from. It's not something we're going to hide from. We've gotta take it on the chin, continue to learn and get better."

Allen is now 5-5 in the playoffs and three of those losses have come against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.

"It sucks," Allen told reporters. "Losing sucks. Losing to them, losing to anybody at home sucks."

This year, however, was the first time the Bills hosted the Chiefs in a playoff matchup. The quarterback was asked if that made this defeat sting even more.

"Here, there, it doesn't matter," he replied. "Losing sucks. I don't know what else to say."

Allen had his team in position to at least force overtime on Sunday in the 27-24 loss, setting up Tyler Bass for a 44-yard field goal with just a minute and 47 seconds remaining in the game. Bass missed it wide right, conjuring memories of Scott Norwood in the process.

The Bills have a tortured history in the playoffs. In the early 90s, the team lost in four consecutive Super Bowls. Between 1996 and 2019, they didn't win a postseason game. Allen has now provided at least one playoff win in each of the past four years, but the team hasn't gotten past the Divisional Round in the last three playoffs.

There's no doubt that he remains one of the game's most dynamic stars, and he wasn't even close to being Buffalo's main issue on Sunday, throwing for 186 yards and a touchdown while avoiding turnovers and not getting sacked. He also rushed for 72 yards and two scores.

But at some point, a failure to get past the team that has become Buffalo's biggest rival—and in the process, a failure to reach the Super Bowl—becomes a part of a player's legacy. Allen surely wants to avoid that legacy as much as Buffalo wants to shed its tortured playoff past.
