Eagles Rumors: Matt Patricia Not Under Contract, Plans to Explore Other Opportunities
It looks like Matt Patricia will not be with the Philadelphia Eagles for the 2024 NFL season.
Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported that Patricia is "not under contract" and "plans to explore other opportunities" in the offseason.
This comes after news that the Eagles had fired defensive coordinator Sean Desai after one season. He notably had his play calling duties stripped earlier in the season as the duties were delegated to Patricia. Now, both defensive coaches will likely not be with Philadelphia next season.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮
The Eagles started the 2023 season on fire with a 10-1 record. This had it looking like a true Super Bowl contender, but a 1-5 skid to end the regular season relegated Philadelphia to a Wild Card spot.
This would lead the Eagles to Tampa Bay where the Buccaneers cruised to a 32-9 victory, ending Philadelphia's season on a disappointing note.
Patricia's time running the defense coincided with much of this skid, with the Eagles surrendering 129 points across his five games at the helm. While he could theoretically negotiate a new contract with the franchise, it looks like both sides may wish to start anew and put this tough stretch in the rearview mirror.
The stint with the Eagles comes as Patricia's previously strong resume has taken several hits in recent seasons. He had a difficult tenure as the head coach of the Detroit Lions, a strange season on the offensive side of the ball for the New England Patriots and now this collapse with the reigning NFC champions.
Despite this, Patricia could potentially reunite with Bill Belichick wherever the latter settles after he parted ways with the New England Patriots. Otherwise, it looks like Patricia will hope to rebuild his legacy with a new franchise.
