Nick Dunlap Wins 2024 American Express; 1st Amateur to Win on PGA Tour Since 1991

Nick Dunlap had a historic weekend.

The golfer became the first amateur to win on the PGA Tour since 1991. The 20-year-old Alabama sophomore won the American Express in La Quinta, California, over the weekend.

With the win, he is also the youngest amateur to win on tour since 1910.

Dunlap scored a 29-under to edge out Christiaan Bezuidenhout for the win on Sunday.

Dunlap, who was the only amateur competing in the event, is just the seventh amateur since 1945 and the third since 1957 to win a tour event. The last amateur winner was Phil Mickelson in the 1991 Tucson Open.

After the event, Mickelson gave Dunlap props on social media.

Dunlap's monumental win comes with stipulations, however. He won't earn prize money because of his amateur status, per PGATour.com. Regardless of whether he decides to turn pro following the event, he will not earn prize money, nor will he earn FedEx Cup points. Instead, the prize money will go to Bezuidenhout, who finished in second, and the points will not carry over to anyone.

Whether he decides to go pro this year or keep his amateur status, it's clear Dunlap is on his way to a great career.
