Lakers Trade Rumors: LAL Target Brogdon, Dinwiddie, Gary Trent Jr. and Tyus Jones

Julia StumbaughJan 21, 2024

The next three weeks could be busy for the Los Angeles Lakers, who want to add a guard before the Feb. 8 trade deadline, according to Action Network's Matt Moore.

The Portland Trail Blazers' Malcolm Brogdon, Brooklyn Nets' Spencer Dinwiddie and Washington Wizards' Tyus Jones are "names to keep an eye on" as the' trade approaches, Moore reported.

The Lakers are also interested in Toronto Raptors guard Gary Trent Jr., according to Moore.

However, there is "skepticism a deal will surface," according to Moore.

Moore's report comes after The Athletic's Jovan Buha reported Friday that talks had "stalled" on a potential trade with the Atlanta Hawks, which would have sent guard Dejounte Murray to Los Angeles with D'Angelo Russell going the other way.

Talks surrounding a potential Murray trade "are expected to pick back up closer to the deadline," according to Buha.

Although the "Lakers' interest in a trade is significant," the team "may be dealing from a serious position of compromised leverage" because of these deals, according to Moore.

Russell has a $18.7 million player option for next season, which the Los Angeles Times' Dan Woike described as "big enough to give teams pause," and Rui Hachimura has two years and $35 million remaining on his deal.

One name to cross off the Lakers' wish list is Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine, Moore said. Not only is it possible that LaVine will stay with the Bulls past the deadline, but the Lakers want to add a player more focused on defense, according to Moore.

Either way, the 21-22 Lakers will hope to make a move before the trade deadline in order to correct a recent tailspin that has seen the team go 6-12 over their last 18 games.
