Jordan Love Takes Blame for 'Mortal Sin' INT in Packers' Loss vs. 49ers: 'It Cost Us'

Doric SamJan 21, 2024

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love will have the entire offseason to think about his regrettable interception on his final pass in Saturday's NFC Divisional Round loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Love, who finished with 194 yards, two touchdowns and two picks in the 24-21 loss, admitted after the game that his attempt to throw a deep pass across the field to Christian Watson in the waning seconds of the fourth quarter was ill-advised.

"Looking back on it, yeah, throw it away," Love said, per ESPN's Rob Demovsky. "I don't know if I had an opportunity to be able to run, maybe get out of bounds. But force it across the middle late, which is a mortal sin, and it cost us. So, it's something I'll look at, but that's an area right there where I'll be able to look at, grow from and get better in the future."

It's hard to fault Love for trying to make a play in such a high-pressure situation. However, quarterbacks rarely find success when throwing across their body like he did:

The Packers held a 21-17 lead before a missed 41-yard field goal by Anders Carlson opened the door for the 49ers to make a comeback. Star running back Christian McCaffrey scored the go-ahead touchdown with 1:07 remaining in the game.

It was a tough way to end the season for the Packers, who had the youngest team in the league but still managed to clinch a playoff spot and upset the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC Wild Card Round.

Love and company will surely be motivated to compete for another postseason spot and make a deeper run next season.
