Frankie Edgar to Be Inducted into UFC Hall of Fame in 2024 Class

Andrew PetersJan 21, 2024

Frankie Edgar will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2024, the UFC announced during Saturday night's broadcast of UFC 297. Edgar is the first inductee announced for 2024.

Edgar was in the house at Scotiabank Arena for UFC 297, where he was surprised with the announcement. The commencement will take place sometime this summer with an official date coming at a later time.

Edgar competed in UFC from 2007 to 2022, with his last fight coming in November 2022. He finished his career with a 24-11 record and seven knockouts.

Edgar held the lightweight title from 2010 to 2012, beating legendary fighter BJ Penn twice to both win the belt and retain it. He lost the lightweight title in 2012 after losing to Benson Henderson.

After competing in lightweight for most of his career, he moved to featherweight in the late stages and found success, thought he was never able to win the featherweight title. Still, standing at just 5-foot-6, Edgar's athleticism and skill was undeniable.

"Frankie Edgar is one of the greatest athletes in UFC history," UFC CEO Dana White said in a statement. "Frankie had an amazing career and consistently fought the best athletes in the world across multiple weight classes for more than 15 years. He is a legend, and it will be an honor to induct him into the UFC Hall of Fame."

Edgar's three successful title defenses in lightweight are tied for the most in the history of the division with Khabib Nurmagomedov, Henderson and Penn. He also holds the second-longest total fight time in UFC history at 7 hours, 57 minutes, 10 seconds and is tied at second in post-fight bonuses with eight.

There's no question Edgar had a Hall of Fame-worthy career.
