Schefter: Nick Sirianni 'Trending' Toward Remaining Eagles HC amid Firing Rumors

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni is "trending" towards a return to the team in 2024 despite rumors of a potential coaching change, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

"The signs continue to point to Nick Sirianni returning," Schefter said during the broadcast of Saturday's playoff game between the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans. "Nothing official. Conversations ongoing, There are expected to be changes on the defensive side of the football. But right now, Nick Sirianni still has a job, and it's trending to staying that way."

Sirianni reportedly met with team owner Jeffrey Lurie on Friday and was "expected to have a plan for how he will improve the team," per Dianna Russini of The Athletic.

The Eagles got off to a hot start in 2023, winning 10 of their first 11 games while owning the best record in the NFL through Week 12. However, Philadelphia was defeated in five of its final six contests and backed into the postseason. The Eagles also lost control of the NFC East during that time, resulting in a road playoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The team then fell in a lopsided 32-9 defeat at the hands of the Buccaneers, marking a swift postseason exit for a group that was in the Super Bowl almost one year prior. This led to questions regarding the job security of Sirianni, who declined to focus on his future with the organization immediately after the game.

"I'm not thinking about that," he said, according to Bobby Kownack of NFL.com. "I'm thinking about the guys. Again, there's a lot of guys in that locker room, all the guys in that locker room, every single one of them that put their heart and soul into this. I'm not worried about me."

It appears that he's safe, although his staff is expected to undergo several changes during the offseason. Both Sirianni and Eagles general manager Howie Roseman have been reportedly reaching out to several coaches to fulfill possible coordinator roles, per Russini.

However, another early playoff defeat during the 2024 season could mark the end of Sirianni's time in Philadelphia.
