NFL Rumors: Latest on David Shaw, Aaron Glenn Interviews for Titans, Falcons HC Jobs

Adam WellsJan 19, 2024

The Tennessee Titans and Atlanta Falcons will interview head-coaching candidates this weekend.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Titans will speak with former Stanford head coach David Shaw.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport added Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn will also interview with the Titans, as well as the Falcons. Rapoport added that the Titans will also interview Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson on Friday.

It's unclear when Glenn's interview will take place since the Lions are also preparing to host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Divisional Round on Sunday.

Detroit head coach Dan Campbell told reporters earlier this week that Glenn and offensive coordinator Ben Johnson would have "a small window" after practice on Friday and between practice and a team meeting on Saturday for their interviews.

The Titans have already interviewed seven coaching candidates. They also put in requests to speak with Glenn and Johnson.

Shaw resigned as Stanford's head coach in November 2022 after 12 seasons. This will be the third interview he's had with an NFL team in the past 12 months. He spoke with the Denver Broncos in January 2023 before they landed on Sean Payton.

The Los Angeles Chargers announced on Thursday they completed an interview with Shaw.

A lot of the attention in Atlanta right now is focused on Bill Belichick. He met with Falcons on Monday and has a second meeting scheduled with team owner Arthur Blank, CEO Rich McKay and general manager Terry Fontenot set for this weekend, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Belichick is one of eight coaching candidates the Falcons have spoken with since firing Arthur Smith on Jan. 8.

A new league rule implemented in October prevents coaches currently employed by a team from having an in-person interview with another club until after the divisional round of the postseason.

The rationale for changing the rule is to give teams more time to consider different candidates, while also giving the coaches more time to prepare for their interview and potentially increase their chances of getting hired.
