Cowboys' Mike McCarthy Has 'Unbelievable Belief' in Dak Prescott After Packers Loss

Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is still confident in Dak Prescott remaining the team's franchise quarterback despite suffering a 48-32 loss to the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round of the playoffs.

"I have unbelievable belief in Dak," McCarthy told reporters on Thursday, per Sean Leahy of Yahoo Sports. "I think he clearly has another step. I think this offense has suited him well. I think the things we were able to improve on—you know, it's a system built around making the quarterback successful. The growth opportunity that we both see was something that we are excited about."

Prescott struggled throughout the first half of Dallas' postseason loss, throwing multiple interceptions. His second was returned for a touchdown after Packers safety Darnell Savage Jr. stepped in front of a pass intended for CeeDee Lamb:

The 30-year-old is under contract for the 2024 season and will carry a cap hit worth roughly $59.5 million for the final year of his current deal (per Spotrac). However, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport revealed on Dec. 3 that Prescott and the Cowboys' front office are expected to work out a long-term extension during the offseason.

There was some speculation regarding McCarthy's job security following another disappointing postseason loss, although team owner Jerry Jones released a statement that announced the 60-year-old will remain on Dallas' sidelines next season (h/t Tom Pelissero of NFL Network).

With McCarthy and Prescott both set to return for the team's 2024 campaign, the Cowboys will expect to advance beyond the divisional round of the playoffs for the first time since the 1995 season.
