Suns' Vogel Says He Trusts Durant, Booker, Beal: 'We Have a Roster That Can Win'
Things seem to finally be coming together for the Phoenix Suns after an inconsistent start to the season that also included injury concerns, and head coach Frank Vogel still has nothing but belief in his trio of stars in Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal.
"I trust these guys," Vogel said following a third straight win, per ESPN's Brian Windhorst. "We have a roster that can win."
While it was fair to expect some growing pains after trading for Beal this offseason to pair him with Durant and Booker, the trio has played just nine of the team's 40 games together because of injuries.
Players such as Jusuf Nurkić, Grayson Allen and Eric Gordon have also missed time, which is one reason Phoenix was so inconsistent to start the season.
Windhorst noted the Suns are last in the NBA in fourth-quarter defense and have been outscored by 14.8 points per 100 fourth-quarter possessions, which is also last in the league.
Yet the end of the game was anything but an issue during Tuesday's win over the Sacramento Kings when Phoenix completed a 22-point fourth-quarter comeback to improve to 22-18 overall and 7-3 since Beal returned from his ankle injury.
The team's potential with so much star power was on full display, especially when Vogel played Durant at center in a small-ball lineup that created plenty of problems for the Kings.
Phoenix is in eighth place in the Western Conference standings but is just two games behind the fifth-seeded New Orleans Pelicans and five games behind the second-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder. If it continues to play at the same level it has since Beal's return for an extended stretch, it will surely climb up those standings and create more favorable matchups come playoff time.
Next up is a head-to-head matchup with those Pelicans on Friday before a stretch that sees the Suns play an Eastern Conference foe in nine of their next 10 games.
The opportunity is there to make a run, and Vogel believes it will happen.
