Heat Rumors: Terry Rozier Has 'Known Preference' for MIA amid Hornets Trade Buzz

Adam WellsJan 17, 2024

If the Charlotte Hornets decide to move on from Terry Rozier prior to the trade deadline, the veteran guard knows would like to end up with another team in the same division.

Per Yahoo Sports' Jake Fischer, Rozier's "known preference" is to play for the Miami Heat if he gets dealt.

Fischer noted LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller and Mark Williams are considered the only untouchables on Charlotte's roster.

Miami has been linked to several backcourt players leading up to the trade deadline. Dejounte Murray is a popular name connected to the Heat, but Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reported on Wednesday they won't make an "aggressive push" for the Atlanta Hawks guard.

Zach LaVine has the Heat among his list of preferred landing spots, but there's no indication they are interested in the two-time All-Star.

The Heat need to find someone who can help increase their scoring output. They rank 18th in offensive rating and 25th in points per game this season. They own the fifth-best three-point percentage (38.2) in the league, but only tied for 20th in attempts per game (33.0).

Some of those offensive issues will get better as long as the Heat get healthy. Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo have missed a combined 25 games already this season.

Butler returned to the lineup on Monday after a seven-game absence due to a foot injury. He scored 31 points in 40 minutes, including the game-winning free throw with 11 seconds remaining, in a 96-95 win over the Brooklyn Nets.

Rozier, who has one more guaranteed season remaining on his contract, has made himself a much more attractive trade chip with how he's played this season, particularly when Ball was out of action for six weeks due to a sprained ankle.

The 29-year-old is averaging a career-high 24.0 points and 6.8 assists per game. He's shooting 45.7 percent from the field, including 36.9 percent from three-point range.

Miami enters play on Wednesday as the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference with a 24-16 record.
