Seahawks' HC Search to Focus on Keeping 'Positive Culture,' GM John Schneider Says

Paul KasabianJan 16, 2024

Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider told reporters that team chair Jody Allen has provided him with one directive as he leads his team's head coaching search.

"It's clear, it's concise," Schneider said Tuesday, per ESPN's Brady Henderson.

"We want to keep our positive culture, everything that's been created here ... There's so many special people in this building. It's amazing to be on the phone with all these agents and the people that are interested in this position and to be able to explain to them, 'Hey, there's a foundation here that's incredible.'"

The Seahawks are looking for a new coach after the team and Pete Carroll, who led Seattle from 2010-2023, agreed to amicably part ways. Carroll remains with the team as an advisor.

The Seahawks' culture was perhaps second to none in the NFL under Carroll. He was a players' coach who created a positive atmosphere, and his team ended up being one of the league's most successful franchises in the 2010s, winning two NFC titles and a Super Bowl.

Evidence of his impact on the team was seen in posts made by his ex-players wishing him well.

Culture was also something Carroll repeatedly championed.

Naturally, the Seahawks want to keep those good vibes going as they begin their next chapter. The next coach will also benefit from a solid roster that has gone 9-8 each of the last two seasons. That talent base will be good to work with moving forward as Seattle looks to return to the playoffs after losing out on a spot due to tiebreakers this year.
