ESPN: Odds Harbaugh Signs Michigan Contract 'Pretty Small' amid Chargers, NFL Rumors

It sounds like the lure of the NFL is too enticing for Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh to pass up this time around.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported on Tuesday's episode of SportsCenter that while Michigan will push to retain Harbaugh with a new contract, it appears to be unlikely that he will continue his tenure with the Wolverines.

"The question now is who else does he talk to? Michigan is trying to keep him. They're trying to put together a package of some sort that would be very lucrative to keep him around, which I do believe he will entertain," Fowler said. "I talked to a source close to Harbaugh who said the chances of him returning to Michigan at this point are probably pretty small. Certainly not out of the realm but he is intrigued about going back to the NFL."

Harbaugh has been a coveted coaching candidate in the NFL for the past few seasons, but he chose to remain at Michigan. After leading the Wolverines to their first national championship since 1997 this year, it appears that he's finally ready to return to the league.

The Los Angeles Chargers interviewed Harbaugh for their head coaching position on Monday, and Fowler noted that the two sides already have developed a mutual interest.

"The Chargers meeting as far as I've heard went well," Fowler said. "They formally interviewed yesterday. The Chargers have not really been shy about their interest in [Harbaugh], it is real, it's legitimate. I believe Harbaugh has a mutual interest as well. The chance with that quarterback, Justin Herbert, to make something happen."

Other openings across the league could be intriguing for Harbaugh, and it remains to be seen if more shakeups will come after some teams get eliminated from the playoffs. Fowler named the Las Vegas Raiders as one of the teams that could be eyeing Harbaugh.

"Question is: The Raiders, some other teams, will they get involved? I've heard that the Raiders might be a team he's interested in too but there has been no official interview or meeting set up yet," he said.
