Tom Brady Enjoyed Dolphins-Chiefs Weather: 'You Gotta Fight Through a Lot of S--t'

Adam WellsJan 16, 2024

The AFC Wild Card Game between the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs didn't look fun for most of the players or fans because of the arctic temperatures, but Tom Brady enjoyed watching everyone fight through the elements.

On the latest episode of the Let's Go podcast (starts at :45 mark), Brady said "you gotta fight through a lot of s--t" if you want to win a Super Bowl.

The temperature at Arrowhead Stadium for kickoff was minus-four degrees with a minus-27 wind chill. It was the third-coldest game in NFL history by the actual temperature and fourth-coldest game by wind chill.

Two images that perfectly summed up what it felt like on the field were Andy Reid having icicles hanging off his mustache and Patrick Mahomes' helmet shattering when he took a hit at the end of a run.

Few players know more about fighting through elements in the postseason than Brady. One of the most famous games during his run with the New England Patriots was the Tuck Rule game against the Oakland Raiders that was played in a snowstorm.

The actual temperature in that game was downright balmy in the mid-20s compared to Kansas City on Saturday night.

Brady played in the coldest game in Patriots history on Jan. 11, 2004. They hosted the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Divisional Round when the temperature was four degrees at kickoff, not including the wind chill that made it feel below-zero.

It's hard to find a bad stat from Brady's 23-year NFL career. He thrived in virtually every situation, including cold weather with a 35-8 record when temperatures were 32 degrees or below at kickoff.

Things will be a little bit nicer for the Chiefs in the AFC Divisional Round against the Buffalo Bills. Current weather projections in Buffalo for Sunday night are for 18-degree temperatures and only a 15 percent chance of snow.
