This past Tuesday and Wednesday provided plenty in the way of unexpected results, guaranteeing the top of the polls would look a lot different.
The surprises didn't stop there, either. On Saturday, TCU handed Houston its second straight loss, while Kentucky and Arizona both went down.
Thanks to their aforementioned back-to-back defeats, the Cougars had the most precipitous fall.
Houston leapfrogged Kansas in the Week 10 poll but still sat No. 2 behind Purdue despite a 14-0 start. If the AP voters maintained a level of skepticism toward Kelvin Sampson's squad, then that feeling was justified based on what unfolded over the past seven days.
The Cougars couldn't claw back from a 10-point deficit against Iowa State and then fell flat against the Horned Frogs. For the second time this year, Emanuel Miller rose to the occasion in the final seconds for TCU as his shot inside was the difference Saturday.
Houston slipped three spots to No. 5 in the latest poll.
Kansas is left to rue how it threw away a golden opportunity to reclaim the top spot. A 78-66 home victory over Oklahoma will look great on the Jayhawks' NCAA tournament résumé, but it wasn't enough to cancel out a 65-60 defeat to UCF three days earlier.
The Knights trailed by as many as 16 points yet maintained their composure as they turned the tables in the second half. Darius Johnson and Jaylin Sellers combined for 35 points in the upset.
Kansas took an indirect hit, too, with Marquette moving to 2-3 in Big East play.
The momentum the Golden Eagles generated in the Maui Invitational, a run that included a 14-point win over the Jayhawks, has subsided completely. They've dropped two in a row to unranked opponents, most recently going ice-cold in a 69-62 loss to Butler. Marquette shot 32.9 percent from the floor and was 5-of-31 from beyond the arc.
Between Weeks 9 and 11, the Golden Eagles have fallen 10 spots in the AP poll.
Out west, Gonzaga is heading in the wrong direction in a much bigger way.
This could be the first time the Zags miss out on the NCAA tournament under head coach Mark Few. A one-point loss to Santa Clara knocked them out of the Top 25, and they almost have no margin for error now.
Should Gonzaga fail to win the WCC tourney, its hopes of claiming an at-large berth could rest almost entirely on its Feb. 10 matchup with Kentucky.
