Video: Patrick Mahomes' Comments to Tua Tagovailoa Caught on Hot Mic After Chiefs Win

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes credited the Miami Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa for having a "hell of a season" after Kansas City's 26-7 AFC Wild Card Round victory.

Mahomes' words were probably a cold comfort for Tagovailoa. The Dolphins signal-caller struggled with the frigid conditions in Kansas City, finishing 20-of-39 for 199 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

In addition, losing in the opening round of the playoffs for the second straight season is likely to be considered a disappointment. Miami's 5-1 start, which included a 70-point showing against the Denver Broncos had many wondering whether the franchise had turned a corner.

The Dolphins wound up winning two more games in 2023 than they had in 2022 but ultimately met the same fate in the end. That could lead the front office to ask some difficult questions this offseason, none bigger than what to do with Tagovailoa.

The southpaw led the NFL in passing yards (4,624) and had a career-high 29 touchdown throws. But there's still a sense he may not be the guy long term, especially when re-signing him could mean committing to a contract in excess of $250 million based on the current market.

Mahomes' assessment of Tagovailoa's season wasn't entirely wrong, yet the Dolphins and their quarterback are likely left wondering what could've been as they process Saturday's loss.
