Commanders Rumors: Lions OC Ben Johnson 'Preselected' to Replace Ron Rivera as HC
As the Washington Commanders continue their search for a new head coach, there's a feeling in some league circles that they are simply going through the motions before eventually giving Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson the job.
Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reported there's a belief that Johnson has been "preselected" to be Washington's coach.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Friday that San Francisco 49ers assistant general manager Adam Peters was being hired by the Commanders as their new general manager.

Florio also noted the Peters' hiring was believed to be a "preselected" move by Commanders owner Josh Harris.
Schefter noted the existing members of the front office "will be evaluated" in the coming days when Peters officially takes over.
Johnson is expected to be one of the most sought-after coaching candidates during this hiring cycle. He interviewed with the Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers last year before deciding to return to the Lions for the 2023 season.
Per NFL.com, the Commanders, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Los Angeles Chargers and Tennessee Titans have requested interviews with Johnson. League rules prevent in-person interviews until after the divisional round of the playoffs, but teams can have virtual meetings with candidates.
Johnson is in his second season as Detroit's offensive coordinator. The Lions have ranked fifth in points per game in each of his two years calling plays. Jared Goff has thrown for 9,013 yards and 59 total touchdowns over the past two seasons.
The Commanders are getting a fresh start with Peters running their front office. They are in prime draft position to add a talented young quarterback with the No. 2 overall pick.
If Johnson ultimately gets hired by the Commanders, the level of optimism for the franchise will be as high as it has been in decades.
