Ole Miss HC Lane Kiffin Makes Cryptic Post About Schedule Amid DeBoer, Alabama Rumors

Ole Miss football head coach Lane Kiffin made a cryptic post on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Friday afternoon regarding next year's schedule.

That post occurred shortly after Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer reportedly left the Huskies for Alabama to replace seven-time national champion Nick Saban, per ESPN's Pete Thamel.

As Thamel noted, though, Ole Miss isn't on Alabama's ledger in 2024 (unless they meet in the SEC Championship Game).

The 48-year-old Kiffin has ties to Alabama, working under Saban as the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach from 2014-2016.

Kiffin was never prominently named to be in the mix for the Alabama gig despite his success (two national titles) there. He even mentioned two years ago that the job may not be for him anyway.

"What could you possibly do right if you don't win the national championship every year?" Kiffin said to USA Today's Blake Toppmeyer.

"'You're going to follow Nick Saban at Alabama?' No, that would not be a good decision for anyone."

As it stands, he's locked into Ole Miss after signing a contract extension with the university in December. He also just made a big move in bringing aboard Bryan Brown as the team's co-defensive coordinator and secondary coach. Brown, who played at Ole Miss from 2003-2006, was just Cincinnati's defensive coordinator/associate head coach.

Ultimately, after an 11-win season and Peach Bowl victory, Ole Miss is well-positioned to compete for College Football Playoff appearances in the near future. Alabama should certainly be one of its competitors within the conference, but those two are scheduled to face each other next season.
