NFL: 'No Discussions' About Moving Steelers vs. Bills Playoff Game Due to Snow

Erin WalshJan 12, 2024

The NFL is not considering relocating Sunday's AFC Wild Card matchup between the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers due to weather concerns.

"We are monitoring conditions as we do for every game, but there have been no discussions about making a change to the game's status," NFL vice president of communications Brian McCarthy said, per Tommy Gallagher of WGRZ 2.

There is a winter storm watch in effect for western New York leading up to Sunday's game.

KDKA Radio's Marty Griffin reported Thursday (h/t Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan) that Sunday's game could be moved to Cleveland if a state of emergency is declared. Griffin added that Browns stadium officials had been told to "be ready."

The Browns do play this weekend, though they will be on the road for a wild-card matchup against the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium, leaving the franchise's stadium open.

Having a home game moved from Highmark Stadium would not be a first for the Josh Allen-led Bills.

In 2022, a Buffalo home game against Cleveland was moved to Detroit following a major storm before Thanksgiving. The Bills went on to beat the Browns 31-23.

The Bills finished the regular season with an 11-6 record and clinched the AFC East for the fourth straight season with a win over the Miami Dolphins in Week 18.

Pittsburgh secured a playoff berth despite losing Kenny Pickett to injury. The Steelers finished with a 10-7 record thanks to the play of quarterback Mason Rudolph down the stretch.

The Steelers enter Buffalo as underdogs but if there's significant snowfall, anything could happen.
