Notre Dame Football Recruiting: The Best Recruits Still out There for the Irish

Edwin WeathersbyJun 7, 2018

Notre Dame has a good chance to find itself in the top recruiting class rankings when the National Signing Day dust settles. The Irish have some stellar commitments in their 17-man class at the moment.

However, they are not waiting around for NSD to come, as Brian Kelly and his staff are recruiting hard. I've got who I feel are the best recruits still left on the board for the Golden Domers.

Check it out.

6. Davonte Neal, CB

1 of 6

Perhaps the fastest player in Arizona, Neal is a solid downfield threat. He gets behind a secondary with ease, as the 5'9", 175-pounder explodes off the line in his release and eats up cushion in a hurry as a receiver.

Neal also can play CB.

Notre Dame hosted Neal in early December and is battling the likes of Arkansas, Arizona, Arizona State and a host of others, as Neal is wide open still.

5. Elijah Shumate, DS/OLB

2 of 6

Shumate is a 6'1", 205-pounder that can play safety or OLB. He's an instinctive defender that has finally honed his recruitment down from being so wide open.

In fact, Shumate is set announce his decision Saturday at the US Army game. He will choose between Rutgers, Notre Dame and South Carolina.

I think the Irish land him.

4. Yuri Wright, CB

3 of 6

Shumate's teammate and a big CB prospect at 6'2", 185-pounds, Wright is also looking at Notre Dame. He can lock WRs down due to his size, length and speed to carry pass catchers all over the field.

Wright visited South Bend in mid-December and seemed to enjoy himself. Rutgers, Michigan, Colorado and Georgia are also in the mix.

A decision could come this month.

3. Arik Armstead, DE

4 of 6

I think Armstead is heading to Cal, but for now he maintains a final list of Texas, Oregon, Auburn and Notre Dame, along with the Bears.

The 6'8", 280-pounder would fit great on the Irish 30-front as a DE, but he also could be a great LT.

Notre Dame saw Armstead in South Bend for the USC game in mid-October. He also wants to play hoops in college, and Brian Kelly likely would have to oblige Armstead's wish if he really wants to land him.

2. Nelson Agholor, ATH

5 of 6

Talk is wild around Agholor as the consensus by many seems to be he's keen on Florida, Notre Dame and USC.

The 6'1", 180-pounder visited South Bend earlier in the fall and really admired the campus, tradition and academics. A visit to USC is upcoming as is a trip to Florida State.

Notre Dame has a good chance here, but will have to stay on him because Agholor is a wanted man by UF and USC.

1. Josh Garnett, OL

6 of 6

Garnett has told Scout.com that he's down to a final three of Stanford, Michigan and Notre Dame. He's going to take a trip to Stanford next weekend and will likely settle on a school shortly after that.

Stanford could land him as could Michigan. Notre Dame will have to continue to work for Garnett, but he did enjoy his Dec. 10 official visit to South Bend.

This will be interesting.
