NBA Rumors: Lakers' LeBron James Among Players for Netflix's NBA Docuseries

Some heavy hitters will be joining Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James for the NBA's upcoming documentary series on Netflix.

Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported the Sacramento Kings' Domantas Sabonis, Minnesota Timberwolves' Anthony Edwards, Boston Celtics' Jayson Tatum and Miami Heat's Jimmy Butler will also be followed for the project.

The Hollywood Reporter's Alex Weprin reported in October that James' production company was in discussions about a Netflix docuseries along the lines of Quarterback, which profiled some notable quarterbacks from the NFL.

Quarterback featured three players at different levels on the QB pyramid.

The Kansas City Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes is a two-time Super Bowl champion and MVP and widely regarded as the best at the position. The Minnesota Vikings' Kirk Cousins is a four-time Pro Bowler but not necessarily in the elite category. Then there was Marcus Mariota, who was fighting to prove himself as a starter again with the Atlanta Falcons.

The new NBA docuseries, on the other hand, doesn't have that same kind of stratification, though James is obviously in a class by himself. That might be a welcome surprise for Peyton Manning, who will help produce the show.

Manning lamented to Julian Sancton of the Hollywood Reporter in September how lining up the players to be featured on the second season of Quarterback was proving difficult.

"To use a cheesy analogy, we're definitely in the two-minute drill here," he said. "I'd love for someone to call us back and say, 'I want to do it.' I had three starting quarterbacks tell me no yesterday, so I'm swallowing my pride."

It doesn't look like Manning, James and their fellow co-producers are having trouble selling the idea to top stars in the NBA.
