NFL Rumors: 2-Time Super Bowl Winner Leslie Frazier to Interview for Chargers HC Job

Leslie Frazier is reportedly in contention for one of the NFL's vacant head coaching positions this offseason.

The former Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator is set to interview for the Los Angeles Chargers' head coaching gig, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

After taking a year off from coaching, Frazier told Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports earlier this month that he is ready to return to the NFL and has been preparing for head coaching interviews over the last few months.

Frazier told Jones:

"I want to be able to be a part of this hiring cycle. I would love to be able to interview with an owner or organization for one of the head coach vacancies. And I'm basing it on my past experience as a head coach who took a team to the playoffs, the success I've had in the NFL as a coordinator. And hope that would warrant me that opportunity. That's the goal, that's my hope, that I'll be included in this cycle and have a chance to interview with one of the organizations that has an opportunity."

Frazier most recently served as defensive coordinator of the Bills from 2017 until the franchise announced that he would be stepping away from coaching after the 2022 season and had intentions of returning for the 2024 campaign.

The Buffalo defense had been one of the best in the NFL during Frazier's tenure. From 2019-2022, the Bills allowed the least points and the second-fewest yards in the league.

Prior to joining the Bills, Frazier spent time as a secondary coach for the Baltimore Ravens (2016) and defensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2014-15). He was also named interim head coach of the Minnesota Vikings in 2010 before taking over the role full-time from 2011-2013.

In Frazier's three-plus seasons as head coach of the Vikings, he led the team to a 21-32-1 record with one playoff berth.

Frazier also has coaching experience with the Philadelphia Eagles, Cincinnati Bengals and Indianapolis Colts. He won a Super Bowl with the Colts in 2007 while serving as the team's assistant head coach and defensive backs coach.

Prior to getting into coaching, Frazier had a five-year NFL career playing for the Chicago Bears as a defensive back. He was a member of the team that won the Super Bowl in 1986.

The Chargers are looking for a new head coach after firing Brandon Staley following an embarrassing 63-21 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Dec. 14.

L.A. has cast a wide net for both their vacant head coaching and general manager positions, and the franchise announced Tuesday it had completed interviews with internal candidates interim head coach Giff Smith and offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.

In addition to Frazier, the Chargers have also reportedly requested to interview Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and Las Vegas Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham.
