Jets' Top Options With No. 10 Pick in 2024 NFL Draft

Joe TanseyJan 10, 2024

The New York Jets have to approach the offseason with the intention to build around Aaron Rodgers.

The team's No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft should be used to help Rodgers remain upright in the pocket.

New York already has offensive stars in Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson, so it does not have to make the flashy pick at the end of the top 10.

Offensive line help could go a long way into turning the Jets into a playoff contender in the AFC in what may a one-year window with the 40-year-old Rodgers on the field.

The Jets could look into bolstering their defensive depth, but offensive line seems like the obvious target with the No. 10 selection.

Amarius Mims, OT, Georgia

Bleacher Report's NFL scouting department projected Amarius Mims would go to the Jets at No. 10 in their latest mock draft.

Mims was one of the best offensive tackles in the SEC during his career at Georgia, and he would bolster the protection for Rodgers in 2024 and for any other quarterbacks in future seasons.

Mims is the No. 4 offensive tackle in the draft class, per B/R's NFL scouts, but he could be the favorite at No. 10 if there is a run on offensive lineman.

Notre Dame's Joe Alt and Penn State's Olu Fashanu are expected to be chosen well before the Jets get on the clock.

That would leave the Jets with Mims and Alabama's JC Latham to choose from at offensive tackle.

Latham should be the other primary offensive tackle target at No. 10.

B/R's NFL scouts mocked Latham to the Tennessee Titans at No. 7, but he could fall to No. 10 depending on how the first round shakes out.

All it takes is one surprise pick or blockbuster trade to significantly alter how the top 10 plays out.

Latham is rated a bit higher than Mims by B/R's NFL scouts. He could drop to No. 10 because the three teams in front of the Jets could have more pressing needs.

The Tennessee Titans and Atlanta Falcons will have new coaching staffs assisting with their respective picks and the Chicago Bears do not need an offensive tackle at No. 9 after choosing Darnell Wright in the 2023 first round.

Jets quarterbacks were sacked on 64 occasions this season. That number has to come down with a 40-year-old Rodgers off an Achilles injury under center next season.

Jared Verse, EDGE, Florida State

There is a scenario in which the first nine players chosen in late April are offensive players.

The quarterback-hungry teams will go after Caleb Williams, Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels, while a trio of wide receivers could land in the top 10.

Alt and Fashanu seem to be locks to land in the top 10, so there is eight players right there and that group goes to nine if Georgia tight Brock Bowers is an early selection.

The Jets could be in a scenario where they have the pick of the best defensive prospects.

That could lead to a decision to land the best player available, which may be Florida State edge-rusher Jared Verse.

Verse is the top-rated defensive player on the B/R NFL scouting department big board.

The Jets may lose sack leader Bryce Huff in free agency. Verse had nine sacks in each of his two seasons at Florida State.

New York could make the Verse selection to fill that hole and then worry about the offensive line upgrades later in the draft.
