Cowboys Rumors: DC Dan Quinn to Interview for Commanders, Panthers, Chargers HC Jobs

Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn is once again a popular head-coaching candidate during this hiring cycle.

Per Albert Breer of The MMQB, Quinn plans to interview with the Washington Commanders, Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Chargers.

Breer noted Quinn's interviews will likely take place at the end of next week. Dallas is preparing to host the Green Bay Packers in an NFC Wild Card game on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. ET.

If the Cowboys beat the Packers, they will host another playoff game on either Jan. 20 or 21.

Quinn has been a popular head-coaching candidate in the previous two years. He had two interviews with both the Arizona Cardinals and Indianapolis Colts last year.

The 53-year-old ultimately withdrew his name from consideration to return to the Cowboys for a third season.

Carolina wasn't one of the teams that spoke with Quinn last offseason. Frank Reich ultimately got the job, but he was fired on Nov. 27 after a 1-10 start to the season.

The Chargers and Commanders figure to be two of the most attractive head-coaching jobs available. Los Angeles is in a bad spot with the salary cap, but Justin Herbert is an elite-level quarterback who has been hurt by the talent around him for most of his career.

Washington is basically in year one with Josh Harris as owner. He officially took over in July, but that was too late in the offseason to make any significant changes to the coaching staff or front office.

Ron Rivera was fired by the Commanders on Monday after going 26-40-1 in four seasons. ESPN's Adam Schefter and Adrian Wojnarowski reported former Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers and former Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman have been hired to assists ownership in the search for a new head of football operations and head coach.

The Commanders own the No. 2 pick in a draft with two highly-regarded quarterbacks at the top of the class. They also project to have the most cap space in the league if they want to add free agents to help their first-round pick.

Quinn spent six seasons as head coach for the Atlanta Falcons from 2015 to '20. He had a 43-42 record and led the team to the postseason twice, including an appearance in Super Bowl 51.

The Cowboys have ranked in the top seven in points allowed per game in each of Quinn's three seasons as defensive coordinator.
