Michigan's Blake Corum, Will Johnson Named 2024 CFB National Championship MVPs

Andrew PetersJan 9, 2024

Michigan's Blake Corum and Will Johnson are the 2024 College Football National Championship MVP.

Corum, a running back, has had an outstanding season, and he capped off his Michigan career with a huge performance in the Wolverines' 34-13 win over Washington in the College Football Playoff title game. He totaled 134 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns on the night.

His first score came in the fourth quarter as Michigan led 20-13 and was looking for some breathing room. Corum powered his way into the end zone on a 12-yard touchdown. He found the endzone again late in the fourth quarter to put the game away and give the Wolverines a 34-13 lead with less than four minutes to play.

For Johnson, he made one of the biggest plays off the game. After Washington cut it to a seven-point game right before halftime, Johnson intercepted Michael Penix's first pass of the second half, slowing the Huskies momentum and give Michigan the chance to create some breathing room with a field goal.

It was a fitting end to Corum's career. After missing the end of the 2022 season and the CFP with an injury, he was looking to comeback and lead Michigan to a national championship this season. He collected 1,245 yards and 27 touchdowns this season, breaking Michigan's single-season rushing touchdown record and willing the Wolverines to a title.

Johnson has been a big part of Michigan's defense this season. The sophomore picked up 27 tackles and four interceptions on the season — including arguably the biggest one of his career.

Together, the two MVPs helped Michigan win its first national championship since 1997. The Wolverines have overcome adversity this season, dealing with a sign-stealing investigation and two separate suspensions for head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Now, Michigan has its award for the 15-0 season.
