Peter King: 'I Bet' Seahawks Trade Up to Draft Geno Smith Successor in 2024 NFL Draft

NBC Sports' Peter King believes the Seattle Seahawks will look to trade up in the draft to pick a successor for quarterback Geno Smith.

The Seahawks currently have the No. 16 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, but King sees Seattle moving up to get in on a loaded quarterback class.

"As for teams anxious to deal up for a quarterback, let's see if Minnesota, at 11, moves aggressively to sign Kirk Cousins (I doubt it)," King wrote. "Then it's Denver at 12, Vegas at 13, Seattle at 16 (I bet Seattle tries to move up) in the derby for young quarterbacks."

The 2024 NFL Draft is bound to have several quarterbacks off the board quickly. According to Bleacher Report's 2024 NFL Draft Big Board, there are eight quarterbacks in the top 125 prospects, with North Carolina's Drake Maye, USC's Caleb Williams and LSU's Jayden Daniels being some of the top names.

This season, the 33-year old Smith threw for 3,624 yards, 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He had less success in his second year of being Seattle's starter, but he's proven to still be a qualified option, though inconsistent at times.

If the Seahawks manage to draft up and land a quarterback, they would have the option for him to learn while playing behind Smith, or even take over under center if head coach Pete Carroll sees fit.
