Aaron Rodgers Says Jets Need to 'Flush the Bulls--t' Before 2024 NFL Season

Jack MurrayJan 8, 2024

Aaron Rodgers believes that the New York Jets need a cleansing to orchestrate a turnaround next season.

The quarterback missed all but four plays of the 2023 NFL season after suffering a ruptured Achilles in the Jets season opener against the Buffalo Bills. New York would go on to finish 7-10 and miss the postseason for the 13th consecutive season.

When asked about what it will take for the team to take a step up in 2024, Rodgers did not mince words, stating that the Jets need to "flush the bulls--t."

"Anything in this building that we're doing that has nothing to do with winning needs to be assessed," Rodgers said, per Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic. "Everything that we do has to have a purpose ... the bulls--t that has nothing to do with winning has to get out of the building."

The Jets entered the season with high expectations with Rodgers but his injury derailed the team. The offense struggled with the likes of Zach Wilson, Tim Boyle and Trevor Siemian under center, finishing 31st in the NFL in total offense.

However, the defense was an opposite story, ranking third in the league in total defense. The Jets also secured notable wins against playoff teams like the Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles and Houston Texans. The season also ended on a positive note as the franchise snapped a 15-game losing streak to the New England Patriots in the final game of the season.

While these are merely just consolation prizes, it does provide some hope for the team when Rodgers returns to the gridiron. The four-time MVP has a proven ability to win, highlighted by a Super Bowl ring and a 148-75-1 record as a starter. He should add a dynamic that the franchise has not had in a long time, and his candid take shows that the team should have a much different culture going forward.
