AFC North 1st NFL Division to Have Every Team Finish With Winning Record Since 1935

Jack MurrayJan 7, 2024

History was made in Week 18 for the AFC North Division.

Following the Cincinnati Bengals' victory over the Cleveland Browns, all four teams in the division finished with a record above .500. This is the first time an entire division has finished with a winning record in the Super Bowl era and the first time since 1935 that an entire division has earned this accomplishment.

The West Division was the last to accomplish this in that 1935 season, with the Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears and Chicago Cardinals all securing a winning record. The Lions were the only team who would advance to the playoffs, taking down the New York Giants to win the league championship.

This year, the AFC North will send the Baltimore Ravens, Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers to the postseason while the Bengals will be watching from home. Cincinnati had won the division in each of the past two seasons.

The Browns, Steelers and Bengals all finished the season with different starting quarterbacks than in Week 1, showcasing the depth and talent on all of the rosters. The Steelers were the best team in division play, going 5-1 against the other three. Baltimore and Cleveland each had 3-3 division records while the Bengals stumbled to a 1-5 record within the division.
