Steelers Fans Celebrate as PIT Clinches 2024 NFL Playoff Spot with Jaguars Loss

Timothy RappJan 7, 2024

The Pittsburgh Steelers are thankful for the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

Tennessee's win over the Jacksonville Jaguars—paired with Pittsburgh's win on Saturday—clinched a playoff berth for the Steelers.

And folks in the Steel City were thrilled to see their team get back into the postseason dance after missing out in the 2022 campaign:

Pittsburgh, which finished the season 10-7, still doesn't know who it will play next week. If the Buffalo Bills—who also clinched a playoff berth after Jacksonville's loss—beat the Miami Dolphins on Sunday night, the Steelers will face the Bills.

If the Dolphins win, however, the Steelers will face the Kansas City Chiefs. They'll be underdogs in either matchup.

But for a Steelers team that cycled between three different quarterbacks—none of them particularly effective, though Mason Rudolph helped spark the three-game winning streak to close the regular season—battled through a three-game losing streak in early December and dealt with a series of injuries to key players this season, it's all house money at this point.

Their defense is good enough to give them at least a shot against most teams, though T.J. Watt's torn MCL is expected to keep him out multiple weeks and seriously hurts that defense.

Regardless, the Steelers managed to get into the postseason. They don't have the look of contenders, but anything can happen in the playoffs.
