NFL Trade Rumors: Insiders Feel Mike Vrabel, Titans Would Both Be Open to Move

Jack MurrayJan 6, 2024

The Mike Vrabel era in Tennessee may be coming to an end.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Vrabel and the Tennessee Titans will be having "organizational meetings" that will address the future direction of the franchise. He reported the talks could include whether or not Vrabel will be with the teams for the next step and that a trade could be possible.

"There are people around the league who think that either Vrabel would be open to be moved to another team or that the Titans would be open to moving him--maybe both," Schefter said.

Vrabel has stated a desire to remain with the Titans, but Schefter reported that "others have wondered how content he is" and that "the situation in Tennessee is currently not settled."

Vrabel has been with the organization since 2019 and has compiled an overall regular season record of 53-45. He has guided the Titans to a winning record in four of his six seasons, including a 2021 season in which Tennessee went 12-5 and was the No. 1 seed in the AFC. Vrabel also won Coach of the Year that season.

Tennessee has its first losing season in the Vrabel era in 2022 with a 7-10 record and has sputtered to a 5-11 record this season. This has led to speculation on Vrabel's future, as he has said he wants to be with the franchise "as long as we can win."

The elephant in the room is a potential vacancy with the New England Patriots as head coach Bill Belichick's future looks uncertain following a difficult 2023 season. Vrabel spent eight seasons with New England, being named first-team All-Pro in 2007 and winning three Super Bowls with the franchise.

Before any of this is settled, Tennessee will look to end the season on a high note in Week 18 when it takes on the Jacksonville Jaguars at 1:00 P.M. ET.
