NBA Fans Troll Darvin Ham with Memes After LeBron James, Lakers Lose to Morant, Grizz

Adam WellsJan 6, 2024

It doesn't seem like a good time to be Darvin Ham, whose seat seems to be getting hotter with each subsequent Los Angeles Lakers' loss.

Their latest stumble was a 127-113 defeat against the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night. Ham's team has lost four straight, 10 of 13 since winning the in-season tournament and sits 11th in the Western Conference standings.

Sam Amick of The Athletic reported prior to Friday's game that Ham isn't on the verge of being fired, but it probably doesn't speak well for his long-term prospects that he's pushing back against people who focus on the results of the games.

Those people Ham talked about, who were living and dying with the outcome of every Lakers game, responded to him with a series of memes and videos on social media after losing to the Grizzlies.

There is a lot of smoke around Ham's status with the Lakers amid their ongoing struggles this season. The Athletic's Sam Amick wrote prior to Friday's game that one high-ranking team official pushed back on the idea that Ham was on the verge of getting fired.

Even if a firing isn't imminent, it's probably not a good sign that Shams Charania and Jovan Buha of The Athletic reported earlier this week there is a "deepening disconnect" between Ham and the Lakers locker room.

It probably doesn't help Ham's case that LeBron James is telling reporters the Lakers "just suck right now." He said that following the Grizzlies loss two days after leaving the locker room before speaking to the media in the aftermath of losing to the Miami Heat.

With no obvious and immediate solution to all of their problems, Ham has a difficult task ahead of him to get the Lakers clicking again. The schedule doesn't get easier for him to do so, as they will host the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday at 9:30 p.m. ET.
