Current AFC standings are:

  1. Baltimore Ravens (13-3, AFC North) (X, Y, Z)
  2. Miami Dolphins (11-5, AFC East) (X)
  3. Kansas City Chiefs (10-6, AFC West) (X, Y)
  4. Houston Texans (9-7, AFC South) (X)
  5. Cleveland Browns (11-5, Wild Card) (X)
  6. Buffalo Bills (10-6, Wild Card)
  7. Pittsburgh Steelers (10-7)

On the Bubble

Jacksonville Jaguars (9-7)

(X): clinched playoffs, (Y): clinched division, (Z): clinched No. 1 seed

The Baltimore Ravens will sit out the first round of the playoffs, watching as division foes and conference challengers slug it out in the opening Wildcard round of these playoffs.

Beyond that, there are still plenty of variables not accounted for on the AFC side of things.

Will it be the Buffalo Bills or Miami Dolphins who claim the AFC East crown in the final game of the 2023 regular season Sunday night on NBC? If Buffalo loses, it is entirely possible that Josh Allen and Co. find themselves on the outside looking in at the postseason.

The Houston Texans cashed their ticket to the postseason Saturday night with a dramatic 23-19 win over the Indianapolis Colts that eliminated that surprising team from postseason contention.

A Jacksonville Jaguars loss Sunday will hand DeMeco Ryans' squad an AFC South title in his first year as head coach.

Current NFC playoff standings are:

  1. San Francisco 49ers (12-4, NFC West) (X, Y, Z)
  2. Dallas Cowboys (11-5, NFC East) (X)
  3. Detroit Lions (11-5, NFC North) (X, Y)
  4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8-8, NFC South)
  5. Philadelphia Eagles (11-5, Wild Card) (X)
  6. Los Angeles Rams (9-7, Wild Card) (X)
  7. Green Bay Packers (8-8, Wild Card)

On the Bubble

New Orleans Saints (8-8)

Seattle Seahawks (8-8)

Minnesota Vikings (7-9)

Atlanta Falcons (7-9)

(X): clinched playoffs; (Y): clinched division, (Z) clinched No. 1 seed

There are two spots in the NFC still up for grabs, with three teams battling for the NFC South crown.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers currently lead the division but missed a chance to solidify a playoff spot for themselves in Week 17 with a loss to the New Orleans Saints, who have a showdown with the third team in contention, the Atlanta Falcons, Sunday afternoon.

A win for the Bucs against the Carolina Panthers wins them the division. A loss and Saints victory gives the division title to New Orleans. The Falcons take the division with a win over New Orleans and a Tampa Bay loss.

It is division title or nothing for the Falcons.

The Saints and Bucs can find ways into the final Wildcard spot with wins, a loss by the other, and losses by Seattle, Minnesota, and Green Bay, all of whom are still in contention.

That piece of the puzzle is simplified significantly if the Packers defeat the Chicago Bears Sunday afternoon. They would take over that final Wildcard spot, but could climb to the sixth seed with a Los Angeles Rams loss to the 49ers.
