San Francisco 49ers Are Preparing to Play the New Orleans Saints

Jon SiddowayJan 4, 2012

The San Francisco 49ers are using the extra time during their first-round bye to prepare for playing the New Orleans Saints

You heard it from head coach Jim Harbaugh himself.

At least, you did if you were tuned into his interview on Wednesday morning on 95.7 The Game

While the 49ers are also using time to prepare for the Atlanta Falcons and New York Giants—also possible opponents for their second-round game on Saturday, Jan. 14—Harbaugh admitted the majority of their focus is aimed towards one specific team.

“More the Saints,” Harbaugh said on-air. “The greater share would be preparing for the Saints.”

As shocking and straightforward as that public admission sounds, it makes complete sense.

The Saints appear to be the most dangerous team in the playoffs (including the 15-1 Packers) as they are currently riding an impressive eight-game winning streak. The possible matchup would be the first time the teams collided since a preseason game saw the Saints crush the 49ers 24-3.

This time around, the Niners will be much more prepared (and hopefully healthy) thanks to the extra time.

Another advantage of being the No. 2 seed.

What are your thoughts on this approach?
