New Jersey Nets: Best Possible Roster for the 2012-13 Brooklyn Nets
The Nets will move to Brooklyn next season. Mikhail Prokhorov and Billy King are trying everything under the sun to create as much excitement around the team as possible.
The Nets are going to be competing for a share of New York with the Knicks, and right now, the Knicks are, by far, the popular team.
The Nets need to make some big moves and fill out their roster with the right players in order to start winning and make the venture over to Brooklyn an exciting one.
Here is a potential roster that could excite fans as they make the transition.
Starting Point Guard: Deron Williams
1 of 9The biggest goal of the New Jersey Nets this season is to keep their star point guard Deron Williams, who they invested a lot in, on the team in the future.
They obviously want Williams to be the focal point of the team as they move to Brooklyn. In turn, they are most likely going to have to go out and get Dwight Howard in order to convince Deron Williams to stay.
The Nets' first season in Brooklyn should consist of arguably the best point guard in the league running the team.
Starting Shooting Guard: MarShon Brooks
2 of 9Just going by this young season, Nets rookie MarShon Brooks looks like the real deal. It is only a matter of time before he is in the starting five.
Many compare Brooks to Kobe Bryant. Bryant is one of the best players ever, so it is hard to compare the two, but there are some glaring similarities in their game and look.
If Brooks is as good as he looks like he is going to be, the Nets might have a good scoring guard to play with Deron Williams and Dwight Howard.
The Nets must make their move to acquire Howard soon because the more Brooks plays well, the more teams will be interested in him.
Starting Small Forward: Wilson Chandler
3 of 9Former Knick Wilson Chandler is currently playing in the Chinese Basketball Association. He will be returning to the NBA soon, and the Nets should try to get him on their team.
The Nets desperately need an athletic small forward. Wilson has exceptional leaping ability, finishes well at the basket and has an improving jump shot.
Wilson has averaged around 15 points and five rebounds per game in his career and is only 24 years old.
Chandler should come back to New York, but in a Nets jersey.
Starting Power Forward: Kris Humphries
4 of 9Kris Humphries has proven that he is a serviceable and reliable player. He is strong and athletic and is the guy on the Nets that does all the dirty work.
Every team needs a player that is willing to do the dirty work, and Humphries can do that and then some.
The "Hump" averaged a double-double last year, and so far, he is this year as well.
The Nets should resign Humphries again—if they can afford him—to play in Brooklyn alongside Dwight Howard.
Starting Center: Dwight Howard
5 of 9Dwight Howard has to be the center for the Nets as they move to Brooklyn.
After all the rumors and speculation that Dwight Howard was going to be coming to the Nets, if he is not in a Nets jersey at the start of next season, it will be a crushing blow to the Nets organization.
Seeing the duo of "D-Will" and "D12" playing on the same team has interested everyone around the league, and the Nets need to make it happen.
Reports are saying that the Nets are trying to acquire DeMarcus Cousins and then, possibly ship him to the Magic for Howard.
Do whatever it takes to get Howard to Brooklyn.
6th Man: Andrei Kirilenko
6 of 9Reports showed that the Nets had interest in Andrei Kirilenko to be on the team this season.
The second Mikhail Prokhorov bought the New Jersey Nets, it seemed as if the Russian billionaire would be able to easily get fellow Russian Andrei Kirilenko to play for him.
Kirilenko's agents have reported that he has decided to finish this season in Russia instead of returning to the NBA.
The Nets should try and convince Kirilenko to come back to the NBA next season to be their sixth man as they move to Brooklyn.
Backup Point Guard: Sundiata Gaines
7 of 9Sundiata Gaines has proved that he is a good backup point guard and can provide the Nets with a strong spark off the bench.
When Deron Williams is off the court, the Nets can rely on Gaines to play point guard.
Role Player: Anthony Morrow
8 of 9Anthony Morrow was given a shot to start this season and prove that he is good enough to be a starting shooting guard in this league. He failed to do so.
It seems as if Morrow is just a role player off the bench, but he could have an important role for the Nets next season.
Morrow is a sharpshooter and should come off the bench to drain threes for the Nets. Having Dwight Howard will allow opportunities for Morrow to have open looks.
If they do not have to trade him in order to get Howard, Morrow could help the Nets score in bunches off the bench in front of their Brooklyn crowd.
Other Role Players
9 of 9The Nets need to round out their lineup with serviceable players off the bench to make them a deep team. The reserves include:
Forward: Bostjan Nachbar
Center: Johan Petro
Forward: Jordan Williams
Guard: Jordan Farmar (if he doesn't get traded and the team can afford him)
Another point guard
