Jazz Insider: Jordan Clarkson Trade Hasn't Interested Teams amid Lauri Markkanen Buzz

Tyler ConwayJul 25, 2024

The Utah Jazz have reportedly not found takers interested in trading for guard Jordan Clarkson.

Andy Larsen of the Salt Lake Tribune reported a complete lack of interest in the former Sixth Man of the Year, who is coming off an up-and-down 2023-24 campaign.

Clarkson, 32, has two years remaining on his contract and is making $14.1 million next season. He averaged 17.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game last season.

The 2023-24 season was a bit of a disappointment for both Clarkson and the Jazz. He's averaged a career-high 20.2 points per game in 2022-23 while Utah surprised many with a 37-win season.

The Jazz were unable to build on that campaign and regressed, finishing at 31-51 and 12th place in the Western Conference. That has allowed the team to explore moving on from its veteran talent like Clarkson, and the Jazz will likely continue to be active in exploring their long-term options.

All-Star forward Lauri Markkanen has been the subject of trade rumors throughout the summer. While Utah has set a high price on the 27-year-old, Markkanen could be on the move soon. August 6 is the key date for Markkanen, as that is the first day he would be able to renegotiate and extend his contract with the Jazz.

Clarkson started 80 games over the last two seasons in Utah but would almost certainly be moved back to a full-time bench role if he's traded. He has come off the bench in 496 of his 716 appearances overall.

Utah explored trading Clarkson during the season but waited to pitch Clarkson's value relative to other contracts for similarly skilled players over the summer.

As it stands, the Jazz will likely have to wait until the season begins until Clarkson's value rebounds enough to land them anything of value.
