NFL Playoff Picture 2023-24: Updated AFC, NFC Standings After Week 13 SNF

Joe TanseyDec 3, 2023

Sunday ended with one four-way tie in each conference in the wild-card race.

The Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans moved up to seven wins in the AFC, while the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers suffered defeats that forced a four-way tie at 7-5.

The Green Bay Packers forced a four-way tie at 6-6 in the NFC with a Sunday night upset over the Kansas City Chiefs. They are tied with the Seattle Seahawks, Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Rams.

Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Indianapolis left Sunday in the AFC wild-card spots, while Green Bay joined Minnesota and Dallas in the NFC wild-card positions.

The top of the NFC standings did not change on Sunday, but the San Francisco 49ers gained a vital win over the Philadelphia Eagles in the chase for the No. 1 overall seed.

San Francisco blew out the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field to move within one game of the NFC leader. Now the 49ers have the head-to-head tiebreaker in hand in case the two teams end up with the same record.

Division Leaders

1. Miami (9-3)

2. Baltimore (9-3)

3. Jacksonville (8-3)

4. Kansas City (8-4)

5. Pittsburgh (7-5)

6. Cleveland (7-5)

7. Indianapolis (7-5)

8. Houston (7-5)

9. Denver (6-6)

10. Buffalo (6-6)

11. Cincinnati (5-6)

12. Los Angeles Chargers (5-7)

13. Las Vegas (5-7)

The AFC wild-card race got way more chaotic after Sunday's results.

Indianapolis and Houston picked up victories, while Cleveland and Pittsburgh suffered disappointing losses.

The Browns fell in Joe Flacco's first start, while the Steelers were stunned by Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals.

Despite the loss, Pittsburgh finished Sunday in the No. 5 spot in the AFC standings after a plethora of tiebreakers were applied.

Pittsburgh is in front of Cleveland because of its better divisional record. The Steelers and Browns split their two meetings. Pittsburgh is 3-1 in the AFC North, while Cleveland is 3-2.

The Steelers are in front of the Colts because of their better win percentage in common games, while the Browns are the No. 6 seed because of their head-to-head win over Indianapolis.

The Colts' win over the Titans kept them in the No. 7 position. The Colts and Texans play in Week 18 in a game that could have a playoff spot on the line.

Miami jumped into the top seed with its blowout victory over the Washington Commanders.

The Dolphins are ahead of the Baltimore Ravens on the conference record tiebreaker. Miami holds a 6-2 record within the AFC, while the Ravens are 6-3. Baltimore is off this weekend.

Kansas City did not overtake Miami on Sunday night since it fell on the road to Green Bay.

That is a big boost to the Dolphins' quest for home-field advantage since the Chiefs own a head-to-head win over the AFC East leader.

Jacksonville can finish Week 13 on top of the AFC if it beats the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night. A win would give Jacksonville one more conference win than both Miami and Baltimore.

5. Dallas (9-3)

6. Minnesota (6-6)

7. Green Bay (6-6)

8. Los Angeles Rams (6-6)

9. Seattle (6-6)

10. Tampa Bay (5-7)

11. New Orleans (5-7)

Green Bay jumped into the No. 6 spot with its Sunday night win over Kansas City.

The Packers own a head-to-head win over the Rams. The Rams beat the Seahawks twice and that took Seattle out of a potential tiebreaker against Green Bay.

Jordan Love and Co. lost to the Vikings in Week 8, so that kept Minnesota in the No. 6 spot. The Vikings and Packers meet again in Week 17.

San Francisco moved within one game of the No. 1 seed with its 42-19 win over the Eagles.

Brock Purdy and Co. delivered a statement on the road, as they scored touchdowns on six consecutive drives.

The 49ers now need to finish the regular season level on record with the Eagles to pick up home-field advantage in the NFC.

Detroit rebounded from its Thanksgiving Day loss with a road win in New Orleans, but it did not gain any spots in the NFC because of San Francisco's victory.

The Atlanta Falcons extended their edge atop the NFC South with a 13-8 win over the New York Jets.

Atlanta took the division lead last week with a win over New Orleans, and now it holds a one-game edge in the standings and a head-to-head tiebreaker over the Saints.

The Saints' best chance of reaching the postseason might be through the NFC South title, and the same goes for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, since they are stuck behind the Vikings, Seahawks, Rams and Packers in the wild-card race.
