
College Football Transfer Portal 2023: Tracking Early Decisions for Notable Players
If recent years are any indication, there will be thousands of college football players who transfer this offseason.
Some of them aren't waiting long to enter their names in the transfer portal.
With that in mind, here is a look at some of the most notable players across the sport who are entering their name in the portal and perhaps looking to suit up for a different program in 2024.
Oregon QB Ty Thompson

Oregon quarterback Ty Thompson will enter the transfer portal with two years of eligibility remaining, according to Pete Thamel of ESPN.
Thompson spent the past season backing up Heisman Trophy finalist Bo Nix, finishing with 297 passing yards and four touchdowns.
Texas Tech QB Tyler Shough Transfers to Louisville

Texas Tech quarterback Tyler Shough is transferring to Louisville from Texas Tech, per Pete Thamel of ESPN.
Shough, 24, will be in his seventh season of college football, and threw for 746 yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions before breaking his leg last season.
Florida State DE Patrick Payton

Florida State defensive end Patrick Payton announced his own decision to enter the transfer portal, saying, "Im Sorry Nole Nation I Plan To Enter The Transfer Portal….."
The sophomore tallied six sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss in 13 games for the Seminoles on the way to an undefeated regular season.
Colorado TE Michael Harrison

Colorado tight end Michael Harrison entered the transfer portal, per Tom VanHaaren of ESPN. The junior remained with the Buffaloes after Deion Sanders took over last season and finished 2023 with 31 catches for 284 yards, ranking second on the team with five receiving touchdowns.
Cincinnati S Bryon Threats

Cincinnati safety Bryon Threats officially entered the portal Monday, according to ESPN's Adam Rittenberg.
The junior recorded 123 tackles, intercepted four passes and broke up 13 throws over three seasons with the Bearcats.
Boise State QB Taylen Green

Boise State quarterback Taylen Green announced Monday he's entering the transfer portal and leaving the door open for a return to the Broncos.
Over the past two years, the 6'6" signal-caller had 3,794 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.
Georgia QB Brock Vandagriff

Georgia quarterback Brock Vandagriff announced he's entering the portal after spending three seasons with the Bulldogs.
Vandagriff was the No. 17 overall recruit in 247Sports' composite rankings for the 2021 class but has seen limited action in Athens. He has gone 12-of-21 for 165 yards and two touchdowns while first backing up Stetson Bennett and then Carson Beck.
Ohio State WR Julian Fleming

Ohio State receiver Julian Fleming announced that he is entering the transfer portal.
Fleming, a former 5-star recruit and the No. 4 overall prospect in the class of 2020, had 26 receptions for 270 yards as the Buckeyes went 11-1 in 2023. The senior has 79 career receptions for 963 yards and seven touchdowns in four seasons.
South Carolina WR Juice Wells

South Carolina wide receiver Juice Wells entered the portal, per ESPN's Pete Thamel.
Thamel said he is "expected to be at or near the top of the portal WR market" even though he missed much of the 2023 campaign due to a foot injury. Wells tallied 1,250 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns in 2021 when he was at James Madison and followed that with 928 receiving yards and six touchdowns in 2022 for the Gamecocks.
Baylor QB Blake Shapen

Blake Shapen is entering the transfer portal after two years as the Baylor Bears' starting quarterback.
Shapen competed 61.7 percent of his passes in 2023, throwing for 2,188 yards, 13 touchdowns and three interceptions.
Oklahoma QB Dillon Gabriel

Oklahoma quarterback Dillon Gabriel is set to enter the transfer portal after leading the Sooner to a 10-2 season, per Matt Zenitz of 247Sports.
Gabriel threw for 3,660 yards, 30 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also rushed for 373 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2023.
Ohio State QB Kyle McCord

Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord has entered the transfer portal after leading the Buckeyes to an 11-1 season, per ESPN's Adam Rittenberg.
McCord threw for 3,170 yards, 24 touchdowns and six interceptions.
Texas A&M DL Walter Nolen

The No. 2 overall recruit in 2022, Nolen had 37 total tackles and one pass defended for the Aggies in 2023.
James Madison QB Jordan McCloud

McCloud threw for 3,400 yards, 32 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also rushed for 311 yards and 8 touchdowns in 2023.
Vanderbilt QB Walter Taylor

Taylor, a sophomore, threw for just 44 yards and 1 interception in 2023, while rushing for 102 yards and a touchdown.
Washington State QB Cameron Ward

Washington State quarterback Cameron Ward is expected to enter the transfer portal, according to 247 Sports' Chris Hummer and Matt Zenitz.
Ward, who has one year of eligibility remaining, is also considering entering his name in the 2024 NFL Draft, according to Hummer and Zenitz.

Pyne appeared in two games for the Sun Devils, throwing for 273 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions.
UCLA QB Dante Moore

Moore threw for 1,610 yards, 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 2023.
NC State QB MJ Morris

Morris, a sophomore, completed 55.8 percent of his passes for 719 yards and seven touchdowns in 2023.
Oregon State QB DJ Uiagalelei

Uiagalelei spent the first three years of his career at Clemson before transferring to Oregon State. He threw for 2,638 yards, 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 2023.
Duke QB Riley Leonard

The junior signal caller had an injury-plagued 2023 season that saw him throw for just 1,102 yards, three touchdowns and 3 interceptions, while rushing for 173 yards and two more scores. Leonard had a much more promising 2022 campaign, in which he tallied 2,967 passing yards, 20 touchdowns and 6 interceptions, while rushing for 699 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Texas A&M QB Max Johnson

Texas A&M quarterback Max Johnson announced he will transfer to North Carolina.
He started his collegiate career at LSU and played in 12 combined games for the Aggies the past two seasons.
Coastal Carolina QB Grayson McCall

Fifth-year senior Grayson McCall has entered the transfer portal, per ESPN's Tom VanHaaren.
McCall has spent his entire college career at Coastal Carolina. He threw for 1,919 yards and 10 touchdowns, but only played seven games due to an injury.
This marks the second time McCall has entered the transfer portal. He previously did it following the 2022 season after head coach Jamey Chadwell left to take the same job at Liberty.
McCall withdrew his name from the transfer portal in January to remain at Coastal Carolina. He has thrown for 10,005 yards and 88 touchdowns in 42 career games.
Arkansas QB KJ Jefferson

Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson is expected to enter the transfer portal, according to 247 Sports' Chris Hummer. Jefferson threw for 2,107 yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 2023.
Jefferson later posted a message on Instagram saying he had not made a decision on the portal yet.
South Florida QB Gerry Bohanon

USF quarterback and former Baylor star Gerry Bohanon announced on Instagram that he will be entering the transfer portal.
Bohanon, who has one year of eligibility remaining, helped lead Baylor to a No. 5 Associated Press poll ranking, 12 wins and a Sugar Bowl win in 2021. He transferred to USF after the campaign but suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in Oct. 2022 and hasn't played since.
Florida International WR Kris Mitchell

Florida International wide receiver Kris Mitchell has entered the transfer portal.
Mitchell broke out in 2023 with 64 catches for 1,118 yards and six touchdowns. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
Ohio State EDGE Omari Abor

Ohio State edge-rusher Omari Abor told Hayes Fawcett of On3 that he plans to enter the transfer portal.
Abor, a 4-star recruit, ranked 63rd overall on the 247Sports composite list and sixth at his position. He has three years of eligibility remaining after redshirting in 2022.
The Duncanville, Texas native played in five games this season.
Stanford RB E.J. Smith

Stanford running back E.J. Smith announced on Instagram that he is entering the transfer portal as a graduate transfer.
Smith finished second on the Cardinal with 458 yards from scrimmage this past season. He amassed 216 rushing yards and one touchdown on 53 carries (4.1 YPC) in addition to 242 receiving yards on 33 receptions.
He is the son of Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith.
Temple QB E.J. Warner

Temple quarterback E.J. Warner announced on social media that he will be entering the transfer portal.
Warner, the son of Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner, has two years of eligibility left. He completed 57.5 percent of his passes for 23 touchdowns (12 interceptions) and 3,076 yards (6.9 yards per attempt) in 10 games in 2023.
Michigan State QB Noah Kim
