Report: NFL Questioning Falcons After Bijan Robinson Not Included on Injury Report

Scott PolacekOct 23, 2023

Fantasy football players aren't the only ones wondering why the Atlanta Falcons didn't make it known before Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that Bijan Robinson wasn't feeling well.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the NFL is questioning the Falcons regarding why they didn't report Robinson's status and when they were made aware of the situation.

The rookie running back had just one carry for three yards, and head coach Arthur Smith told Fox he wasn't feeling well when asked about his usage.

ESPN noted Robinson said he was "feeling completely out of it" and started "feeling weird" and having headaches on Saturday night.

He also said he wasn't tested for a concussion or given a COVID test.

Yet ESPN also reported that the Falcons believed there was never any doubt the Texas product would play, which is why they didn't add his name to the injury report. Teams in the past have been fined for not including players on the weekly injury report who would either be unavailable or play less than usual because of an ailment or injury.

Atlanta instead turned to Tyler Allgeier and Cordarrelle Patterson in the backfield, and the two combined for 31 carries in the 16-13 win.

The Falcons were missing some of Robinson's explosiveness, especially when Allgeier averaged just 2.8 yards per attempt during his 21 carries. To their credit, they escaped with a road victory in large part because of a strong performance from their defense.

They are now 4-3 on the season and in first place in the NFC South.

Robinson figures to be an important part of it if Atlanta parlays its decent start into a playoff appearance. The rookie can make plays as both a runner and a pass-catcher, and he tallied more than 100 yards on the ground in two of his first four career games.

Both fantasy players and the Falcons were missing his usual impact Sunday, and the NFL wants an explanation from Atlanta regarding the entire process.
