Dolphins to Appear on In-Season Edition of HBO's 'Hard Knocks' on Max in 2023

The NFL announced Monday that the Miami Dolphins would appear on the in-season edition of Hard Knocks during the 2023 campaign.

NFL Films and HBO added an in-season version of Hard Knocks back in 2021, debuting with the Indianapolis Colts. The Arizona Cardinals were featured in last season's version.

Neither team fared well in front of HBO's cameras, at least in terms of on-field results.

The Colts appeared to be a feel-good story for the Hard Knocks cameras, recovering from a 1-4 start and looking playoff-bound after entering the final two weeks with a 9-6 record. But they lost in Week 17 on a last-second field goal to the Las Vegas Raiders and a week later fell to a Jacksonville Jaguars team that finished 3-14 on the season, as Carson Wentz was sacked six times and turned the ball over twice.

That cost the Colts a playoff berth, a result that then-head coach Frank Reich described as a "scar."

It was worse for the Cardinals last season.

Arizona went into the 2022 season with high hopes after reaching the playoffs in 2021 but lost seven straight games to end the campaign and saw Kyler Murray's season end in December with a torn ACL, an injury he still hasn't returned from in 2023.

The team finished 4-13, head coach Kliff Kingsbury was fired shortly after the season ended and general manager Steve Keim resigned to focus on his health.

The Dolphins figure to be a bit more of a positive story.

The team is currently 5-2 and has one of the most explosive offenses in recent memory. Head coach Mike McDaniel is one of the NFL's funnier, more interesting personalities and has his Dolphins poised to be legitimate Super Bowl contenders, even after Sunday night's 31-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

As the team gets back playmakers like rookie running back De'Von Achane and star cornerback Jalen Ramsey, they'll only be more dangerous. The Dolphins were a fun pick as the in-season entry for Hard Knocks, following their divisional rival New York Jets, who NFL Films and HBO documented over the summer after an offseason trade for Aaron Rodgers.
