NFL Stars Who Could Reset Market 💰
The 2022 All-Pro is entering the final year of his contract after New York triggered his $9.6 million option.
In January, he told reporters he considered getting a new deal from the team to be a top priority and that he intended to skip any voluntary workouts in the absence of an agreement.
The NFL's collective bargaining agreement makes it prohibitively expensive to hold out of training camp anymore, so Williams is bound to show up sooner or later. But having him come to camp disgruntled wouldn't be ideal.
The New York Post's Brian Costello reported Wednesday "there remains optimism that two sides will get a long-term deal done." However, he also conceded New York "has a terrible history with alienating its best players" and cited Jamal Adams and Darrelle Revis as recent examples.
Williams referencing the Jets again on social media probably means nothing, but it's nonetheless going to lead some fans to believe there was a breakthrough at the negotiating table.
