Brandon Miller: 'I Feel Like I'm No. 1' in NBA Draft, But Can't Argue with Wembanyama
Victor Wembanyama is considered one of the greatest prospects in NBA history and is the most-hyped young player we've seen enter the league since LeBron James.
Brandon Miller thinks he's better.
"I feel like I'm No. 1, but you can't beat 7'5", 8-foot wingspan. I mean, the guy's an animal," Miller told Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium. "I respect him. Right now, I'm just taking it day by day with my family. When we get to [draft] night, it's going to be really exciting and emotional."
Miller is currently a -165 favorite to be selected by the Charlotte Hornets with the No. 2 pick at FanDuel Sportsbook. Wembanyama is a minus-20000 favorite to be taken first overall.
While most evaluators pegged Wembanyama and guard Scoot Henderson as the clear 1-2 in this class for months, Miller was among the biggest winners of the draft lottery. The Hornets have no obvious need for a point guard with LaMelo Ball already in place, whereas they have a desperate need for scoring on the wing.
Miller averaged 18.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 38.4 percent from three-point range. He's drawn comparisons to Paul George and said he sees the Indiana Pacers version of the Los Angeles Clippers All-Star in his game.
While Wembanyama may be the overwhelming favorite to go No. 1, the separation between Miller and Henderson is minimal. The combination of positional need and Miller's skill level might sway the Hornets to select him at No. 2.
